Goose puppet, costumes and props
Co-commissioned to make a music video for UK band Landshapes.
I designed and created the goose puppet, all the props and costumes, including goose outfits and a large egg filled with alien goo for the bird to hatch from.
The goose featured flappable wings powered by a mechanism repurposed from an old umbrella, and a moving beak fashioned from the jaw of a discarded dinosaur toy. Its face was sculpted from clay and hand-painted, while the body was built from plastic bags, layered with towels for structure, and finished with feathers on the wings for texture—bringing the character to life with a distinctly uncanny charm.
We collaborated closely with the band to develop a visual concept that echoed the song’s themes:
“The lyrics are written from the perspective of lunar migratory geese. The idea draws on a 17th-century story by Bishop Francis Godwin, in which a man is carried to the moon by a flock of geese. More recently, artist Agnes Meyer-Brandis revisited this myth, investigating whether the so-called ‘moon geese’ still exist—and whether they’ve forgotten their annual migration and become stranded.”
We brought this surreal narrative to life using a retro-futuristic aesthetic, inspired by classic sci-fi cinema. The visuals blend nostalgic design elements with imagined futures through the use of stylised graphics and handcrafted puppet animation, creating a whimsical yet otherworldly tone that mirrors the song’s lyrical universe.
