About me
Hello! I’m Freya—a comedy writer with a background in fine art, film, theatre, puppetry, medicine, and motherhood (not necessarily in that order).
I studied Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University, where I created video installations and sculptures, and was a member of The Oxford Revue. I later completed an MA in Visual Media for Performance at the Central School of Speech and Drama, later trying my hand at stand-up comedy—a terrifying but brilliant way to sharpen my writing. I was a semi-finalist in The Laughing Horse New Act of the Year and went on to co-write comedy shorts for BBC Online.
I’ve written, produced, and performed in shows at venues including the Barbican, ICA, Battersea Arts Centre, Camden People’s Theatre, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I also took courses in animation and model-making and developed a particular love for puppets.
After a detour into medicine—studying at Barts and The London and working as a doctor—I returned to writing with a multitude of deeply moving experiences and a richer understanding of human vulnerability, which continues to shape my work.
I now split my time between London and Sydney, writing, animating, making art, and chasing my young son around with a sun hat.
I’m always open to collaboration and available for freelance work — do get in touch!
